Privacy Policy
We collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and this site uses no cookies or trackers.
Who we are
This policy covers captainhalvard.com and The Captain’s Handbook (“we”, “us”). Questions about your data: hi@captainhalvard.com.
What we collect
- When you buy: your name, email address, country and order details. Your card details go straight to our payment provider. We never see or store them.
- When you email us: your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- When you visit the site: standard technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Our hosting provider processes this to deliver and protect the site.
How we use it
- To deliver the handbook and send it again if you lose it (performing our contract with you).
- To answer your messages (our legitimate interest in helping you).
- To keep records required by tax and accounting law (legal obligation).
- To keep the site secure and working (legitimate interest).
We don’t send marketing emails and we don’t use your data for advertising.
Who we share it with
- Payment provider (Stripe and Link): processes your payment and acts as the merchant of record, which means it handles the sale, taxes and receipts.
- Hosting provider (Vercel): serves this website.
- Email provider: stores the messages you send us.
- Authorities: only when the law requires it.
Some of these providers process data outside the EU and UK. When they do, they use safeguards approved by the European Commission and the UK, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually up to 10 years. Emails are kept for as long as needed to help you, then deleted. Hosting logs are kept for a short time by our hosting provider.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking scripts. The payment page is run by our payment provider and may use cookies that are strictly necessary for secure payment and fraud prevention.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or transfer your data, and you can object to how we use it. Email hi@captainhalvard.com and we’ll reply within one month. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, for example the ICO in the UK or the Office for Personal Data Protection in Slovakia.
Children
The handbook is sold to adults. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date below.
